Between Code and Canon: Artificial Intelligence in Language and Literature Studies
Abstract
Artificial intelligence reads, writes, translates, tutors and grades across language classrooms and literature seminars. Between Code and Canon asks what changes when the instruments of interpretation are themselves made of the texts they interpret. Its fourteen chapters move from the machine as reader, through distant reading of Calvino, decoding strategies and the gendered stereotypes of generative models, to the machine as participant in teaching, from agentic tutors and chatbot games to gifted learners, synthetic voices and FLE writing, before turning to assessment and law. Refusing both enthusiasm and alarm, the volume argues for a literacy at once technical, critical and pedagogical.
